Vruchtbaar speuren met Michèle Matyn
Natuurgebied Bichterweerd is een ware kraamkamer voor de natuur, en zelfs uitgeroepen tot ‘international bird area’. Michèle Matyn (°1978, BE) laat zich inspireren door één van de onbereikbare eilandjes in de grindplas. Het doet denken aan een onbewoond eiland, maar woont hier echt niemand? Wie naar het eiland loert, ziet zes bijzondere figuren. Het zijn sculpturen die de vruchtbaarheid en overvloed op het broedeiland symboliseren.
Dit laatste tijdelijke werk komt eraan op 29 februari in Bichterweerd (Dilsen-Stokkem). Daar presenteert Michèle Matyn haar Vulva Island.

Fertile tracking with Michèle Matyn
Nature reserve Bichterweerd is a true nursery for nature, and even declared an ‘international bird area’. Michèle Matyn (°1978, BE) is inspired by one of the inaccessible islands in the gravel lake. It reminds one of an uninhabited island, but does nobody really live here? If you peer at the island, you will see six unusual figures. They are sculptures symbolising fertility and abundance on the nesting island.
This latest temporary work arrives on 29 February in Bichterweerd (Dilsen-Stokkem). There, Michèle Matyn will present her Vulva Island.

Art on the Meuse is an initiative of Z33, House for Contemporary Art, Design & Architecture (Hasselt) and Regionaal Landschap Kempen & Maasland.
The project is supported by Flanders, in particular by Tourism Flanders and the Cultural Infrastructure Fund (FoCI), and the five Flemish Meuse municipalities (Kinrooi, Maaseik, Dilsen-Stokkem, Maasmechelen and Lanaken). The project is being carried out in cooperation with numerous actors who are active in the Meuse valley.
